It's All In A Name......

Wow, this month has gone by so fast. Isaac is changing so much and is definitely growing into his name. It was so hard coming up with the PERFECT name. I remember thinking that I didn't want him to hate his name and I also wanted it to mean something. So, of course, I bought a name book...or two...I really can't remember how many. Well, to be honest, we already had a girl name picked out for a few years. My friend from college, Nicole, told me one day a few years ago (probably when we first started trying to get pregnant) that she had a dream......well, in this dream Dell and I had a daughter (but I'm not going to spill on the name just in case we have a girl......). So, that was going to be the name.

When I was younger (way before I even met Dell) I used to say that I would love to have a boy first, then a girl so he could look out for his little sister. But after trying to get pregnant for so long, neither one of us had a preference of a boy or girl. So, as friends do, when I started telling everyone we were pregnant (the MINUTE we found out - sorry, I just couldn't wait the "suggested 3 months" LOL!) my friends started telling me we were having a girl......giving me charts (Jana) and having "hunches". Now this chart hadn't been wrong for Jana, all of her friends and a few people from work......and it said GIRL! It's so funny to hear about all the different ways to find out...boy or girl (not medically or scientifically, by any means). Well, OBVIOUSLY the chart was wrong. And the moment we found out we were having a little boy, we were both so excited. But I digress......

After we found out we were having a boy......that's when I started to stress out about the name a little bit. We'd been thinking for a while about a boy's name, but hadn't come up with anything that we just loved. So, since I was looking for a name with a special meaning for our miracle child, I started to search the internet for biblical names. You can't get more meaningful than that. There were several that we liked, but the ones that made it to the final two were Isaac (obviously) and Isaiah. Isaiah means "God is Salvation"......and Isaac means "Laughter". But there's also the story behind Isaac.

Abraham and Sarah tried for so long to have a child and God finally blessed them with a son, Isaac. Many of you already know the story, but when God told Abraham that Sarah would bear a child, she overheard this and laughed. Which could possibly be where the name Isaac came from. :-) Not that I'm NINTY or anything, but I felt that we could somewhat relate to this story since we tried for so long. As I've said before, God's timing is always perfect.

Now for the middle name......this was TOUGHER than the first name, to some degree. Now that we had the first name, we needed to find something that "goes with" Isaac. I was at a loss, until one night (about two weeks before I delivered) I was going through my list of biblical names and came across Nathaniel. I thought it sounded PERFECT together. And the meaning was perfect as well......Gift of God.

So, Isaac Nathaniel Garcia, this is where your name came from. And when I said you were growing into your name, I meant that you are laughing SOOO much all the time. And it's not just a giggle, it's a red-faced, from-the-gut, whole-hearted LAUGH! And it seriously brings me so much joy. I could be having the worst day and it completely turns around when I can make you LAUGH like that! And ALWAYS you are our special little Gift from God.
