WOW, What a Month......

First, let me start off with a little good news that I keep forgetting to tell you all. At about 11 months, Isaac took his first steps. It took him a little while to COMPLETELY give up on the crawling, but he is ALL OVER THE PLACE now. He is just hilarious and I realize every day how blessed we are to have him in our lives. I just enjoy being around him as much as I can. He is constantly laughing and making faces and just being silly.

Now for our crazy January. Saturday, January 10th was a scary day for us. The weekend started off pretty good. The weather was actually really nice and since Dell and I both got off work a little earlier than usual on Friday, we both went to pick him up and decided to stop by the park on our way home. First I should let you know that after what seemed like months of him being healthy (no congestion - which is odd, poor baby) he woke up Thursday morning a little congested. No biggie, right??? Keep running the humidifier and as often as I can stand to do it, saline drops. I was running both the warm and cool humidifiers for a while, until I broke the warm one, so I guess I should get another one.

Anyway, here we are at a local park on Friday afternoon......looks happy and healthy, right?

Well, because of the congestion we stopped at the store on the way home and picked up the Vick's tab that you can put in the cool mist humidifier. I had never tried that one before but had used the liquid one for the warm mist humidifier. He woke up Saturday morning, still congested but seemed to be in a good mood. He was drinking his milk and playing with Dell while I made breakfast. We sat down to breakfast and he ate a little eggs, and a little pancakes and must have gagged on a piece of the pancake, because the next thing we knew, he was throwing up all over his little tray. It was a lot of mucus, so I was glad that he got a lot of that up. So, I gave him a bath and tried to give him some pedialyte......he won't touch the stuff, so we gave him a cup of gatorade. He ate some cheerios and a couple hours later he was ready for a nap. He napped with the humidifier on...hoping it would help him, the more we ran it. When he got up from his nap, it was time for lunch. I sat him in his chair and tried to feed him and he was eating a little bit, but not much. He was also wheezing HORRIBLY. So I got a little nervous. After Dell heard him, we decided to take him to the ER. On our way there, he was getting worse and it was getting harder and harder for him to breathe. I have no idea how fast Dell was driving, but he had the hazards on and at one point when I looked up from the backseat we were passing people on the inside shoulder. Then Isaac started crying because it was getting harder for him to breathe, so I tried to calm him down by singing to him. And bless his little heart, when I would finish a song, he would clap his little hands like we usually do.

It seemed like forever, but we finally made it. He got right in and they gave him some steroids and a breathing treatment. The ER doc said his ears looked ok, but he wanted to prescribe him antibiotics just to make sure he didn't have the beginning signs of bronchitis. And he also prescribed Albuterol drops for him to take orally, which I had never heard of before.

Anyway, so we started him on the prescriptions right away and we decided to have his doctor check him out Monday morning. And I'm so glad we did. We didn't think the drops were helping him at all. His wheezing had gone down a LITTLE, but not enough. His doctor said that BOTH of his ears were infected and he was still wheezing. She put him on a different antibiotic (a little stronger one) and the Albuterol breathing treatment. This seemed to help, but when we took him in two weeks later, his right ear hadn't gotten any better...... So, she put him on an even stronger antibiotic that will hopefully get rid of his ear infection. If not, she'll suggest an ENT doctor for him to see. We'll know for sure in about a week and a half......

Oh, and come to find out Monday morning while talking with my sister, he probably had a reaction to the Vick's Vapopad. She had just heard about it on the news that morning. Thankfully, when I filled up the humidifier Saturday night, I realized that was the ONLY thing we did differently, so I took the little pad out.

So, to all you moms out there, be careful when using that. The news report she heard said that it could make the congestion worse......which it apparently did in Isaac's case.

Bless your heart. How scary!!! If you need an ENT, I have a great one. Tubes are the best thing I ever did for Logan (he's had two and adnoids out) all by Dr Klinke. Addy saw him too!
